
Donna M. Williams, RN, MS, CCRN has practiced as a clinical nurse specialist in both urban academic tertiary teaching hospitals and community hospital settings. Her critical care and non-critical care practice settings have included medical, cardiac, surgical, and trauma intensive care units and their intermediate care units. Currently, she is the cardiology nurse specialist with a service line focus for the cardiac intensive care unit, cardiac intermediate care step-down and cardiac medicine patients at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Hospital quality improvement projects in which she has taken the lead or has been an active team member include: elimination of ventilator-associated pneumonia VAP, glucose control in the medical intensive care units, sedation protocol development and implementation, delirium assessment and treatment, inpatient code STEMI, MI and HF clinical pathway development and therapeutic hypothermia, and targeted temperature management in post cardiac arrest and traumatic head injury patients. Donna is also a nurse specialist for the Moore Foundation Libretto group and a former faculty member for the Critical Care Graduate Nursing Program at Regis College and Boston MedFlight. She served for 15 years on the Greater Boston Chapter AACN Board of Directors, and also served as its president. Donna currently serves on the AHA Greater Boston Professional Education conference planning committee and formerly served as a nurse reviewer for the Harvard Collaborative Research Institute’s cardiovascular trials division. Donnas has consulted for the Society of Critical Care Medicine Paragon Coach, New York State Department of Health, Cardiac Services Program Quality Improvement Workgroup Best Practices Hospital Survey Team, Harvard Medical International, and the University Hospital of Dubai. She has been the recipient of several nursing leadership awards, and has been recognized in a community hospital setting and at two separate academic Boston teaching hospital facilities for her collaborative leadership style.
