Dr. Horng divides his time between clinical practice and the design and evaluation of emergency medicine informatics innovations. He specializes in translational clinical informatics and focuses his research on novel methods of artificial intelligence to improve the quality and efficiency of emergency care. He is the primary investigator on a Department of Defense grant investigating novel sepsis surveillance algorithms, and has recently launched a Google Glass pilot program at the BIDMC emergency department, testing Glass for clinical use at the bedside. His research and consulting activities focus on translational clinical informatics through leveraging machine learning to the clinical domain, contextual information retrieval, and targeted decision support. Dr. Horng serves as secretary of the ACEP Section of Medical Informatics and is the principal investigator for the creation of a standardized chief complaint ontology for the nation.
