Associate Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School
Dr. de Silva specializes in emergency cardiac care training, emergency cardiac care systems development, and hospital governance. Dr. de Silva trained as a cardiologist at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), Harvard Medical School and served as attending physician on the staffs at BWH and the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). At BIDMC, he was instrumental in starting the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program of which he was Medical Director for eight years while serving as the director for medical education in the Cardiovascular Division. In 2004, he graduated with a Master’s degree in public administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Subsequently, he served as senior consultant for Harvard Medical International, a not-for-profit organization at Harvard Medical School, providing advisory services and professional consulting to medical centers and hospitals internationally. From 2007 to 2011, Dr. de Silva worked as Director of Global Programs for HMI (later known as Partners Harvard Medical International) for programs in India, Dubai and the Caribbean implementing medical school curricular reform and managing graduate medical education and hospital accreditation programs. He was chair of the Standards Council for Dubai Health Care City (DHCC) from 2008-2011, establishing and monitoring practice and facility standards for DHCC. In the past, he has been president and chair of the Board of the American Heart Association for the Boston Chapter. He was also a visiting fellow at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge University, England. Dr. de Silva is currently a senior consultant at the Department of Emergency Medicine’s International Projects Division, an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, and an attending physician at BIDMC.
