The BIDMC Emergency Department, the hub of our operations, is a level 1 trauma center serving the Boston metropolitan area. BIDMC is a 595-bed acute care hospital treating over 55,000 patients a year. A teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, BIDMC, has 36 EM residents in training. Coverage is provided by ‘layered attending physician staffing’ with as many as 4 attending physicians on at one time. Renowned for excellence in patient care, biomedical research, teaching, and community service, BIDMC ranks third in National Institutes of Health funding among independent hospitals nationwide.
